On February 27 and March 7, the first prototype of the 650 MHz klystron for the Circular Electron and Positron Collider (CEPC) achieved output power levels of 400 kW in continuous wave (CW) mode and 800 kW in pulsed mode (with a 40% duty cycle), respectively. At the 800 kW power level, the microwave conversion efficiency reached 62%, with a 1 dB bandwidth exceeding 1.0 MHz and gain greater than 43 dB.
The successful testing of the CEPC 650 MHz klystron prototype at 800 kW pulsed power and 400 kW continuous wave power marks a significant breakthrough in China’s independent research and development of P-band continuous wave klystrons, filling a domestic technological gap. It also represents the world's first 650 MHz continuous wave klystron.
